Research interests of the Wienands lab

The group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wienands uses a variety of cellular and molecular techniques to illuminate signaling pathways involved in B lymphocyte activation and the regulation of humoral immunity.

The antibody mediated immune response (humoral immunity) is initiated following stimulation of B lymphocytes via their antigen receptor (BCR). The major research objective of the Wienands group is the molecular analysis of BCR mediated signaling processes that lead to B cell differentiation and antibody secretion. Dysfunctions in these mechanisms may lead to immune deficiency and B cell leukemia, thus rendering research in this area significant to the comprehension of human diseases.
